My Week At A Glance!

I'm hooking like mad to make some headway on this piece to take to the Warsaw hook-in next weekend. It's all the color blending that slows me down.  I have to think a bit too long about each piece that comes next.  It's the only way I think this will work for me and not turn into one big hot mess!

I've found time this week to do a bit of kitchen table sketching.........

Summer Tidbits

Busy and extremely pleasant summer!  Life and weather have been more than one could ask for.....  Here's a few tidbits of this and that.

Bike riding again!  Bought a new bike that my very sweet hubby put together for me.  I've been riding all over the neighborhood, and hoping to hit some trails up north along the Missouri River this fall.

 

Still sketchbooking.... a recent sketch of my home.  So glad I discovered sketchbooking this summer.  Thanks Tammy!

Friday I went to Warsaw with Tammy and we hooked all day at Salt Box Primitives.  Here's a sampling of all the creativity going on!

My new job at Robin's Vintage Suitcase and Tearoom.  We're getting two new lines of clothing this week that will be exclusive to the shop.  Robin is scurrying about getting things set up as only she can do.  We're now becoming a boutique, and adding a bakery!

Best of all...... time with our precious little Ruby!

Of course summer isn't over, and it's going to be a very hot week, but with school in session now... it feels as though a lovely fall is not far off!

Home Is Where My Heart Is

Home is where my heart is right now.  I'm so loving being tucked in and working on projects.  I'm using this summer to attack the house in various ways.  Right now we're having a screened-in porch redo going on.  Painting, calking, fixing, etc.  I purchased this adorable light fixture from the Vintage Suitcase (where I work and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ......)  I know I say that in every post, but I'm so happy with my new little part-time job.

Sweet little birdie in a cage will hang from the ceiling.  Just waiting for it to get wired in.  I'm also going to chalk paint my old porch swing.  Hopefully, things will be clean, white, and lovely when done.  The cats, Willow and Iris, hang out on the porch and aren't too happy with the current situation.

You can see that they're a bit misplaced at the moment.

Today has been so cool and beautiful outside.  I picked a few herbs and flowers.

Russian sage, hydrangea, and Japanese fern in my sweet little old green metal teapot.........

And I've been hooking away!  Here's a peek at a bag I'm doing for dear friend Janet.  I've done this pattern on several bags, but this one is larger, and I've used quite a bit of sari silk and ribbon.  Loving the effect!

I'm going to try a whole new treatment for the strap that I've vaguely put together in my head.  Hopefully my vision will come to fruition and I'll have a pretty finished bag to post later.

My very large "red rug" from the Heather Richie rug camp was cluttering my mind.  So....... I cut about two feel off of it and feel light and new!  Using lots of sari silk in this piece also.  I may even use the silk to crochet the border.  I think I'm going to love it!

So all is busy, creative, and beautiful at home.  Hope the same for you!

New Job, Chalk Paint, and Rugs

I'm still over the moon with excitement about my new job at Robin's Vintage Suitcase.  I work in the shop, and also keep her social media up to date.  The shop is constantly full of the old and new.  An oasis of stimulation and creativity.

We carry gorgeous art papers like the piece above.   I went in yesterday to make a paper cone (I'll post pictures of that later) with pretty paper and lovely silk ribbons for the upcoming one year old birthday for our sweet little grand daughter, Ruby.  I used the birdie paper to make my own cone for the spare bedroom.  Speaking of the spare bedroom, I mixed up some chalk paint and painted this little dry sink apple green!

We have several gorgeous pieces of chalk painted furniture in the shop. I got the bug to paint, and love how this piece turned out.  Especially the pretty brown showing through the green and that bit of a distressed look.   Here it is below with everything back in it's place.

I think it looks smashing against the red walls with the addition of my hedgeapple rug.   I also acquired what I call the "Channel No. 5" lamp from Robin's.  Having a regular job has given me gobs more energy, and a bit creative stimulation to begin new projects around the house.

We've been trying to figure out what we'll be doing for our upcoming Heather Richie rug camp.  Here's the beginning of my newest rug.

Oh dear.... I actually do have a plan, but more on that later.  I do want you to know that I'm still rug hooking.  This piece is going to be larger than what I've been doing, and I'm really looking forward to getting started.

One more lovely thing about the new job at Vintage Suitcase is ...... hubby waiting for me when I get home with a nice glass of wine.....

And, of course, our little cat Iris.

By the way, some these pictures are the result of my new camera app, Camera Plus.  I've had fun playing with the various effects I can get.

Spring Has Sprung!

It's cold, but it's officially spring!  Daffodils are all over the place, so I brought some in, and added some pretty pink tulips to the mantel (the tulips are from the day old flowers at the market.... cheap, healthy,  and pretty!).

I love to display my pretty hooked spring pillows this time of year.  Well, actually, I have them out all the time.........but love them now with flowers and sunshine in the house!

And the Firefly piece is hooked and bound.  I may eventually attach it to painted canvas as a wall piece.

Firefly is still around.  His bad wound seems to be healing well.... although he won't let me get close enough to get a good look.  We did make progress a few days ago.  Firefly ate a bowl of food on the deck one sunny afternoon and let me sit in a chair a few feet away.  I think he really wants to be part of our family, just too nervous and distrusting.  I plan to try and trap him a bit later this spring.  If that goes well followed by a vet checkup, rabies shot, and the procedure, I'll then make some decisions about the little guy.

I had a lovely afternoon with bestie, Katie.  She had made me this awesome bracelet.

Isn't it just the cutest?!  So we spent a day at her house, where she taught me the technique and I made another for myself.

Mine's the one on the bottom.  It's a process of layering paper, collage, antiquing, and painting onto a wooden bangle.  Such fun!  And the best part is crafting with a special friend......
