Building A Bag!

Here are three stages of my soon to be finished hydrangea tote bag. First, you see both sides of the hooked bag. I had a full day of hooking at the fair with Tammy yesterday, so was happily able to get the hooking done. The next shot is the bag showing the contrasting plaid I'm using for lining. I just hand whipped it to the edge of the hooking. I love working with wool because it holds together nicely while stitching. I added a couple of inside pockets for keys, cell phone, whatever. The last picture above is the lining shown with the straps. I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to finish it off, but I believe I will whip the sides with wool, and attach straps to inside using large buttons. My goal is to end up with an attractive, but very sturdy bag. If all goes well, I'll post the finished bag tomorrow. Thanks for checking in, and have a wonderful day!

Thanks for sharing the process. I'm in the middle of a hooked totebag and was planning on using "bamboo" type handles as shown in the last issue of Rug Hooking but now I'm re-thinking. I also loved your plaid lining. Will definitely refer back to your ideas when I get done hooking!

Dulcy,
How come I have those 2 wools and never thought of putting them together?
WOW!
You're off to a great start!
Loved spending time hooking with you and Sheri at the fair yesterday.

That is just beautiful, can't wait to see the finished product. Funny how we all have our lil' specialties that we have formed throughout the years. I used to sew the beautiful Victorian lampshades, but lack of time and the inability to stay awake once I get time, has really forced that skill to a screeching halt...some day...maybe!

Now all I do is move furniture constantly...but it has it's rewards...I'm hooked!

OK! Now that you have that one done, you won't need that old one so send it on over. You do amazing work. Jan

I would love to learn to do rug hooking some day... I have a couple of burlap stamped patterns that are old and I think it would be so satisfying to watch the scene come to life. Beautiful work!
