Happy Friday!

I haven't posted anything much on my rug hooking project lately...... and that's because I'm not going at my usual manic hooking pace.  But, actually.... I'm really enjoying this project because I have no particular home for it yet.  It's fairly large, and I'm currently working in little roses around the edge.  I don't have a background color yet, but am thinking blues or perhaps golds.  What color would you choose?  A new perspective might just push me to get going on this one.  I would like it done before we're very far into spring.
It's not really an oval, but a large rectangle...  just thought I'd try out this little enhancement on iPhoto.

My fox pastel is finished.  I made some body shape changes and added more color in the background since I last posted.  Beneath is the photo I was working from.  This little girl was a very good mama to her wee ones last spring.  We watched her raise them for about a month.  We haven't seen any foxes around lately, but our neighbor saw one the other day that didn't appear to be in very good health.  Poor creatures are pushing into our neighborhoods as we push into theirs.

I'm closing with a simple photo of my kitchen windowsill.  It's one of my favorite places to put tiny bottles and old jars for flower vases.  The iris and red carnations are from the grocery, the forsythia branches are some I brought in a couple of weeks ago to force bloom, and the daffodils, snowdrops, and crocus were picked by me this morning from the yard.

Sending my hopes to you for a most lovely weekend!

Dulcy, you are way ahead of us with the blooms. Our snowdrops are not even out yet. I love your pastel of the fox and the way you captured the lighting on the fur on the outside left. Backlighting? Have you ever done a rug with an oatmeal background? The flower and vine scripty border is so pretty and I would hate to see it get lost. But you know what you are doing. All the colors are so beautiful! I opened up a second etsy shop yesterday with only small(sorta) paintings. I know I will type in a non-functioning link so....it's in my name. simple.....take care!

this will be - and is already - gorgeous! i'd probably go for a blueish background, i guess just because i love the cheerful colors so much and i wouldn't wanna tone it down... spring is in the air!
you have some talent there with your pastels, too, the fox turned out great!

Dulcy my friend, you are a such a talented lady. This rug is your best one yet! I think I agree with Dag and would go with a blue background. But that's my favorite color, so I tend to make lots of blue rugs!
And the fox pastel? Fabuloso!!! You really caught on to that medium quickly! What, five or six months of lessons? Wow!
Can't wait to go hooking in Warsaw this month! Has Tammy told you they're having a hook-in on Sat. the 19th? I'd like to go to that if you can make it.
See you soon,
xo, Sheri

Your nature rug is so lovely. Since you asked, if it was mine, I think that I might try a pale green for background or an antique back, but I would have to really think about it. I trust that you will instinctively know what is the right color for you though.

Great job on your fox pastel. Have a great weekend. JB

Next thing you know, they'll be having a showing of your pastel work as well as your hooked work somewhere!
Love the new rug you're working on.....I think a pale turquoise would be pretty as a background.

Dulcy, the fox is just fab. You know I love all the drawings and paintings you have shown us. Please keep doing it! When I look at your garden rug I think of that song lyric that goes... "nothing but blue sky do I see". Can't wait to see the finished rug - no matter what color you choose I know it will be wonderful!

Hi Dulcy, thank you so much for your comment about my blue. I've been dyeing from my kitchen up until now but I just got recently set up to do my dyeing in an upstairs kitchen that we had for our son when he was staying with us. The stove is apartment size so the big canning pot that I use takes a lot of room.

Dyeing brings me so much satisfaction and I'm developing my own recipes by following April DeConick Virtual Color Palette directions that can be seen on Rug Hooking Daily. JB
